Are you also stuck in the 9-5 trap?

Let’s start with how much do you earn? Where do you work? Which Company? Oh! Are you a Government Employee? Well, doesn’t matter. Are you also stuck in your job? Waiting for your appraisal or promotion? Are you also doing it because you think the IT department or government pays you enough? And one important question, do you also wait for Weekends eagerly? As if you only have weekends to live your life.

Do you think it is worth it? To work for 5 days a week just to live your life for two days a week (weekend)? Well, I know we all are not very happy with it, but we are stuck here. That’s why it is called a 9-5 trap.

It’s a common and global problem.  But why are we stuck here because of ‘rozi roti ke liye kamana toh padta hai yaar’. But still, why? Don’t we have other options to choose or we just never thought about it. I know many of you will relate with whatever we discuss in this article and many of you will just say – ‘ ye sab toh sab ko pata hai, par Kisi ne kya ukhad Liya’, ‘cut this crap’, ‘come to the point’, ‘just chill, this is life’. This may sound crap to you, but just read it, you never know what might change your life.

Anyway, the way we all grew up, the family, the society, the environment, the neighborhood, we can blame them a little if we want for whatever situation we are in. Because when we were growing up, everyone just used to discuss ‘usko kis company hai job lag gyi’, ‘iska Kitna package hai’, ‘Tujhe bas job lag Jaye toh sab Sahi ho jaega’, ‘beta job nahi kar rahe, toh kar kya rahe ho Zindagi mai?’, etc, etc..

But if you are wise enough, you take responsibility for what is happening with you. Another reason people usually give is –‘We need money, we are not rich’. Well, it can be considered, but the one reason why we all fall for this trap is that we are lazy asses. Getting a job is the easiest thing to do and that is the reason why millions of people are doing it. We will put in the minimum efforts needed to get a job, but do an extra effort and overtime to stay in that job. Why? Why do we spend 50-60 hrs a week working so that someone else’s company can gain some revenue and in return give you a minute percent of it as your salary?  In fact, during this pandemic and lockdown, we are spending more than 60 hrs in work from home.

Why are you doing this? Have you thought about it? If not, give it a thought today.

How to get out of this trap?

Now if you have realized what the problem is, we can discuss how to solve the problem.

Think about what if you spend this much hours on something that you enjoy doing or you are passionate about or something of your own. It can be anything. In today’s world, we have plenty of options available. You can pick up anything and can make your career in that. Now I know that quitting Job is not the right option now if you are already working. But what you can do is start thinking about career options that you can start working on side by side, that is along with your job.  You might find it a little cumbersome that along with job how to manage all this and should we then work for 12hrs a day or what.

But look, if you want to get rid of all this crap and 9-5 job and earn independently, then you will have to put in some extra efforts. As it is said nothing is free. You can think of any small home business or any online business to start with. And frankly, if it is something you enjoy, you won’t mind working after your office work. You will finish your office work early to work on your thing.

Some options might need little investment in beginning to start or some options that don’t need any investment, to begin with. I will give you a few options for both. What’s the harm in giving it a try? You never know what might work out and you start earning enough to finally quit your boring job.

Also, here’s another piece of advice that if you doing a job, don’t waste that time just working for some company or department. Learn something during that period, increase your skills, do a course. Because even if you are getting money in return for your work, it cannot give you back the time you spent there. You have to make sure that you don’t come out of any organization without learning any new skill. I am not saying this for your resume. I don’t even like this concept of resume and all, it cannot determine anybody’s skill but you have to learn a skill for your own good because ‘koi bhi gyan kabhi waste nahi hota, kahi na kahi kabhi na kabhi kaam toh aa hi jata hai’ and you cannot bring back your time. Time is money, spend it wisely.

Also, make sure you train the next generation well enough so they don’t fall for the same trap as we did. Because ‘Precaution is better than cure’.

This is the time, to get up and start thinking and start working. Everyone is discussing nothing good is happening in 2020. But nobody is trying to make it good. Many of you are at your home with your family after a long time for a long time since you started working. The daily traveling expense and time is saved for people in metro cities. Therefore, this is the best time to start because it will be easy to manage compared to normal working days. If you want to get out of this trap, this is the right time. Make a move, even if nothing works out, you will learn something from it too.

Such an important but unnoticed topic we usually do not discuss. Thank you for projecting light on it.
